Lord Carrington

Rupert Carington commenced his career in merchant banking in 1970 at Morgan Grenfell & Co Ltd. He worked principally on the international side of the bank covering such disciplines as asset management, project finance, corporate finance and debt. From 1974 He was involved in the development of business in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and undertook many major transactions for both government and private sector companies.

Mr. Carington was a member of the Committee for Middle East Trade (COMET), the UK government advisory body for the Middle East. He headed the government advisory business of the bank which had various mandates from governments in both Asia and Africa. In 1984 he was made CEO of Morgan Grenfell in Hong Kong with the further responsibility of developing business in China.

In 1987 he left Morgan Grenfell in order to establish his own advisory business which entails providing both specific international corporate and asset management advice to clients as well as sitting on client advisory councils and on the boards of listed and unlisted companies principally in the field of asset management.

He is a frequent traveller to Asia and other Emerging Markets and has been Chairman of Schroder AsiaPacific Fund Plc. and Schroder Emerging Countries Fund Plc. as well as The Korea Asia Fund and a director of a number of other companies involved in alternative investment particularly private equity in Asia.

In the Middle East he is a director of two Saudi Arabian businesses in the fields of finance and project management. Mr. Carington is also a regular visitor to the United States of America where he is a director of an asset management business and on the advisory board of a major Family Office.​​

In the United Kingdom he is Chairman of his own family business which is involved in residential, commercial and agricultural property ownership, development.

Mr. Carington is also Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Buckinghamshire and a Patron of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
